As well as being a qualified Veterinary Nurse, Sarah is also a qualified Canine Myotherapist.

The benefits of massage therapy have long been acknowledged and used in humans, these benefits are now being recognized and utilized in the animal world for many conditions.

Massage therapy is a gentle, non invasive treatment which manipulates the soft tissue (skin, fascia, muscles, tendons and ligaments). I use traditional massage techniques to release sore/tight muscle spasms, myofascial release and passive range of movement to re-educate joints to improve flexibility and increase awareness of balance and proprioception. It has numerous physiological effects and can be beneficial to dogs of all ages and all levels of fitness.

Massage therapy can be used to:

  • Improve and/or maintain mobility and flexibility;
  • Encourage a speedier recovery from injury, surgery or illness;
  • Reduce areas of muscular tension and spasm;
  • Prevent muscle wastage and improve muscle tone;
  • Reduce stiffness, swelling and scarring;
  • Induce relaxation;
  • Promote healthy coat and skin;
  • Improve performance/help prevent injury of agility, racing, working or show dogs;
  • Improve quality of life.

Massage therapy can help conditions such as:

  • Hip and elbow dysplasia;
  • Spondylosis;
  • Osteoarthritis;
  • Osteochondritis Dissecans;
  • Neurological conditions;
  • Post operative conditions;
  • Post injury.

If your pet has any of the following symptoms massage therapy may be beneficial:

  • Intermittently lame;
  • Stopped jumping into the car;
  • Not enjoying going for walks as much;
  • Reluctant to go up or down stairs;
  • Stiff when getting up;
  • Back twitches when stroked;
  • Depressed;
  • Nervous of human contact.
